MASTERING TEST-TAKING READING SKILLS WITH CONTEXTUAL GUESSING: THE CASE OF UNIFIED ENTRANCE EXAM

چکیده

A high percentage of bachelor test-takers who failed the unified entrance examination test in 2021 demonstrated lack adequate reading strategies such as contextual guessing for improving exam performance. The study aims at evaluating use strategy during extra-curriculum EFL classes a way to improve students’ present also examines impact word formation component and effectiveness with online vocabulary application preparation. quasi-experimental design was employed which involved 24 third-year students from different departments Higher Educational Institution "Podillia State University" 2020-2021. quantitative research method assess using performance mean score formula. Additionally, we produced statistic based on ranks (Mann–Whitney U-criterion). results showed that experimental group taught unknown words help word-formation processes, clues, particular, applied platform fixing retaining guessed had higher than those were tests grammar-translation method. Based Mann–Whitney U-criterion have statistically significant evidence conclude significantly affects learners’ control groups. guide designed experiment.
